Sales Tax Repealed For Municipal Fees

Governor Corzine recently approved P.L. 2007, c. 105, repealing the imposition of the State Sales Tax on municipal parking and memberships in health clubs and recreational facilities. The repeal takes effect on July 1, 2007. There is no retroactive provision to the law. Sales taxes collected prior to July 1 for the period October 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007 will not be refunded.

If prior to July 1, 2007, a customer paid for a pool membership, recreation  fee, or parking charges which cover periods on and after July 1, 2007, the customer may apply for a sales tax refund.  Information is posted on the Division's website at: www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/notice_repealofsales.htm.  Assistance is available thru the Taxpayer Customer Service Center at 609-292-6400.
